Development tools for a better you
I love what I do and that makes it easy and fun for me to work every day with children and adolescents, individuals and families. I am bi-lingual and speak fluent Spanish. I was born in Colombia and raised in both Colombia and Winter Park, FL. So, I bring a lot of life experience to my work. In my professional practice, I work with stress, worry, anxiety, depression, anger management, low self-esteem, divorce, grief and loss, social skills and multicultural issues. I also have experience with other life changes such as relocations and subsequent adjustment issues.
In my work with children, I utilize play therapy to help children reveal the challenges and issues they struggle with, in a safe and playful environment. Play therapy allows children to express their thoughts and feelings in a way more natural to them. During the play therapy sessions, challenges are revealed. Then, I gently work with children and we begin to change the way they think about and resolve their problems.
In addition to play therapy, I also use sand tray therapy. This is a form of expressive therapy where an individual constructs his or her world in a sand tray, using miniature toys. The beauty of this practice is it’s not necessary to use words. My clients love it. I use this practice with teens, adults and family groups, as well as children.
In individual counseling, we use more words. I am interested in getting to know you. I want to learn why you do what you do, and think what you think. Then, together, the work begins. Many of us have gone through experiences that leave us feeling confused, unmotivated, stuck, and without a clear idea for how to make a change. My experience shows that we feel this way when we are disconnected from who we are and what’s important to us. When we are struggling, we often lose hope for change. This feeling can sometimes be so overwhelming that we need help navigating our way back to a healthier and happier version of ourselves. I love helping with the navigation. By dusting off familiar tools and introducing new tools, I stand with my clients as they find their way to that solid and connected place.
I believe one of the most important benefits to therapy is that it can help us better understand ourselves. My clients become more aware of their self-limiting beliefs. My approach is strength-based and collaborative. We work on building up strengths and overcoming unhelpful thoughts and patterns. These work to replace those old thoughts and behaviors that were keeping you stuck and disconnected. As we begin to expand your insight, what unfolds are the things that are truly aligned with what is important to you.
My goal is to help my client(s) identify ways to find greater and more positive connections with themselves and the people around them – in the present and when life gets challenging. While I understand it’s difficult to reach out to someone for help, it is incredibly courageous! You’ve already taken the first step by visiting our website.
