“Your mind is a garden. Your thoughts are the seeds.
You can grow flowers or you can grow weeds.”
Christian Mickelsen tells the story of the 3rd co-founder of Apple, and it’s someone you’ve probably never heard of. In 1976 Ronald Wayne sold his 10% stake in the company for $800.00. Today that 10% is worth $90 billion dollars! Then he sold his original contract that he had with Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak for $500.00. That same contract later sold at an auction for $1.6 million. Wayne retired to a trailer park where he now sells rare stamps and coins.
The reason that this story is so relevant to our topic is WHY he made these decisions. Allegedly, Wayne had previously failed in business before his opportunity with Apple. He became so afraid that his fear of failing made him fail!
The Universal Truth here is that we manifest into our lives the things that we most desire and the things that we most fear. And why is that??
In “geek talk” in the computer world, they call it GIGO – Garbage IN, Garbage OUT. It means bad input will create bad output. Logically we say that if your premise is flawed, so too will your solution be flawed. If you cultivate poor or incorrect data (the seeds), you end up perpetuating these messages within yourself and to the outside world. And that results in a whole lot of weeds!!
When we were born, we didn’t get an owner’s manual for our minds. We created reality through our focus of attention and our thoughts. What you think about, comes about – whether you want it or not!
Imagine that there are 100 things in your life and 1 of them is good and the other 99 are rotten. If you focus on the 1 good, the other 99 will become less burdensome and solutions will appear. Now let’s reverse the numbers and 99 of them are good and 1 of them is rotten. If you focus on the one that is rotten, in your attempt to smash the problem, the other 99 will become rotten too. This is the power of your focus. Your focus is your point of attraction and like gravity, it makes no judgement about when to work and when not to work!
It’s incredibly easy to give in to old habits, familiar fears, comfortable limiting beliefs, and justifiable doubts. After all, your mind has one job, and one job only and that’s to keep you SAFE. It keeps you safe by sticking with what’s familiar. But sooner or later, you may default back into what you fear.
You cannot hold on to thoughts about unpleasant things when you are looking for things that are pleasant. You cannot bring to your experience pleasant things when you are fixated on something unpleasant. It is as simple as that. Tune yourself into what you want
So,
what does it mean to grow flowers instead of weeds?
It means being aware; aware of the quality of what you take in as well as what
you produce. Mindful that you have a choice to choose positive values and
direction. And mindful that what you plant inside will grow outside. Your mind
is hungry, so feed it well. And enjoy
the harvest of all you desire!
